State coalition calls on Wicker to seek congressional hearings on administration’s unilateral attack on Iran
A coalition under the banner of the advocacy group Mississippi United has called on U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker to use his power as chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee to investigate and hold hearings on the U.S. and Israeli war on Iran.
Mississippi United called on Wicker in response to his recent assertion that “President Trump and his team conducted a comprehensive strategy using all tools of national power and a well-orchestrated military planning process” in undertaking the attack, which was not authorized by Congress, as required by the Constitution.
In its March 2, 2026, letter to Wicker signed by 500 state residents, according to a news release in which the names of signers are redacted, Mississippi United states that while the organization recognizes the brutality of the Iranian regime and its decades of hostility toward the U.S., “One of the most important components of our national power is that before a declaration of war, which implicates the lives of American soldiers, the safety and security of the American people, and American financial resources derived from our tax dollars, both our legislative and executive branches of government must agree.”
Among the issues the coalition wants investigated are the staging of the attack without congressional approval and the failure of diplomatic negotiations. Mississippi United also wants the public to be apprised of the ultimate goals and exit strategy; who America’s allies are in the military action; a cost-benefit analysis of the attack; and the implications for adversaries to retaliate and on trade, the U.S. economy and the safety of American citizens.
“Now is the time for you to show your constituents and the nation what leadership truly looks like in the face of an Administration determined to usurp your power,” the letter states.
