Protests billed as No Kings Day are planned nationwide for June 14, 2025, in response to an unprecedented military parade in Washington, D.C. on President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday and the likewise unprecedented deployment of federal troops to combat protests against ICE roundups in Los Angeles.
Trump has threatened to use force to quell any public demonstration, even if it remains peaceful, in stark contrast to his encouragement of the Jan. 6, 2021, protest at the U.S. Capitol, which resulted in a violent assault for which perpetrators were criminally convicted and later pardoned by the president.
Saturday’s events, which will fall on Flag Day and the 250th anniversary of the formation of the U.S. military, are expected to be the largest in a series of growing grassroots protests across the country.
More protests are scheduled in Mississippi than took place earlier in the year under the auspices of the 50501 Movement, which is among scores of organizations partnering to hold the Saturday demonstrations, according to numerous media reports.
The following Mississippi events are planned:
Jackson, noon to 2 p.m. at the south side of the Mississippi State Capitol at 400 High St.
Gulfport: 9-11 a.m. at the Gulfport Federal Courthouse (the MS Gulf Coast Mutual Aid Collective is organizing this event, according to USA Today)
Tupelo, 10:30 a.m. to noon in front of U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly’s office, 431 W. Main St. (Indivisible Northeast Mississippi is the event organizer)
Starkville, noon to 3 p.m. at The Hub
Hernando, 3-4 p.m. at the DeSoto County Courthouse, 2535 Hwy. 51 South
Hattiesburg: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the steps of city hall, 200 Forrest St. (organized by 50501 movement); will include a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the U.S. flag and the United States Army
