Group affiliated with 50501 protests criticizes Wicker’s comments about constituent messages
Related protests planned for Friday and Saturday
A group of Mississippians affiliated with 50501 issued a news release on Aug. 14, 2025, criticizing U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker after he, in their view, “publicly expressed his disdain for constituents voicing their opinions through emails, calls, and letters to his office.” The release was distributed by Kathleen O’Beirne.
“Residents throughout Mississippi will join forces this weekend in protest against the recent derogatory comments by U.S. Senator Roger Wicker toward his own constituents. In a luncheon hosted by the Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce on August 5, Wicker was asked whether he receives the messages from people who call and email his office. In response, Wicker said that ‘surely everybody has better things to do with their time,’ and that people should ‘get a life.’
“Since January, Mississippians have made thousands of calls to Senators Wicker and [Cindy] Hyde-Smith and to Congressmen Michael Guest, Trent Kelly, and Mike Ezell, expressing concerns about the fascist tendencies of the Trump Administration and urging their elected officials to stand up for our democratic norms, vulnerable populations, immigrants, the environment, education, healthcare, and our allies around the world, to name just a few issues. Without fail, these officials have ignored the pleas of their constituents and adhered strictly to the dictates of President Trump.
“No doubt, Mississippians have other things to be doing with their time. But this weekend, many will take time out of their busy lives to stand up and speak up for the state and country they love so much.”
The group announced the following scheduled protests at noon on Friday, Aug. 15:
Jackson, 501 Court St. (Thad Cochran Federal Courthouse)
Starkville, corner of Main & Jackson (The Hub)
Columbus, location TBA
Tunica, location TBA

What a surprise that Roger Wicker, who receives less than 10% of his funding from small individuals donations, doesn't care about anybody that doesn't line his pockets.
